The biomass balance approach, awarded the REDcert² label—an important industrial certification for companies investing significantly in sustainable raw materials—allows carbon dioxide emissions to be reduced throughout the production cycle by replacing fossil resources extensively with renewable resources derived from biomass. It also allows waste destined for disposal to be recovered and reused.
At Novacolor, we address environmental and sustainability challenges by redesigning our production chain through an agreement with BASF, the world’s largest and best-known chemical company. We share BASF’s commitment to quality, interest in research and innovation, and focus on key issues such as social responsibility and environmental protection. Our Mass Balance Approach gives customers Novacolor paints formulated with sustainable raw materials while maintaining quality standards. The aim of the Biomass Balance approach is to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by replacing fossil resources with renewable resources from biomass. Sources include bio-naphtha and biogas, mainly derived from organic waste and vegetable oils. Renewable raw materials enter at the start of the binder production cycle and are incorporated into the final product. This is a true revolution in the world of paints, changing both consumer habits and the entire supply chain, and giving everyone the opportunity to make a real, tangible contribution to protecting the environment and the wellbeing of its inhabitants.

No VOCs – Volatile organic compounds are chemical compounds whose molecules come from different sources but share the ability to evaporate readily into the air at room temperature. VOCs have a considerable impact on global and climate change, as well as on our health. Our products have a low VOC content, reduce indoor air pollution and enable us to care for our planet.
Our products can achieve an A+ indoor air quality rating. This classification measures and categorises the emissions that finishes release into the atmosphere 28 days after application. An A+ product brings high quality to our walls, together with consideration for the environment and health—issues of the greatest importance today.
Formaldehyde is a substance harmful to health and can pollute indoor air up to ten times more than outdoor air. Our formaldehyde-free paints are specially designed to bind molecules of this substance, helping prevent people living in the decorated spaces from breathing them in.
